For some reason, my family wanted to make today special for me. I thought it might be fun and interesting to just give a rundown of the way the day unfolded. Overall, and I really want to stress this, it was a good day, low key, but very good.
7:00 AM--Rolled, bleary-eyed out of bed and said my prayers leaning against the living room couch. Can't tell you why I ended up there, but it's where I was. Before I was finished, I was joined by the kids who made it a bit hard to finish with any real sense of meditative contemplation, but at least I ended with joy.
8:00 AM--Taking the kids to school after a great breakfast. I cooked the pepper crusted bacon (shoulda gone with the maple flavored, but it was still pretty good) while Heidi poached eggs. I LOVE her eggs. Also opened two of my presents. I got a Hoops and YoYo keychain that was supposed to be for my motorcycle, but was too big. I also got four Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (seriously, check out the link, especially if you like Iron Man).
9:00 AM--Decided to go to the DMV to take the written part of my test for my motorcycle endorsement. I passed, though just barely. The opening screen said I could skip questions and go back to them. Yeah, you could skip them, but the going back part didn't work for me. If I had known, I would have had a better score, but I passed so we're okay.
10:00 AM--Still at the DMV. I thought it'd be quick, take the test and go. No, I have to get a new picture and a new license and pay more money. Bummer.
11:00 AM--Guess where I still am.
12:00 AM--Got home in time to pick up Anneke from Kindergarten. Ate lunch (grilled sandwiches made by Heidi (man that girl can cook)).
1:00 PM--Lay down for a nap 'cause I work this weekend.
4:00 PM--Kids are home. Got a big surprise in the mail. My mom sent a card that included a belt buckle from my grandpa. It's a green '60s style soft top car. Picture may come later. The kids cleaned the house while I take the bike out to buy a new headlight bulb and a lemon/blueberry cheesecake for my birthday. Conclusively prove that it is possible to transport cheesecake on a motorcycle.
5:00 PM--Headed out to Macaroni Grill. We got a gift card to the place and thought it would be a good time to use it. We had a good time and a good meal. Everything was pretty good (I even splurged and got lobster ravioli), but we did realize that Olive Garden is more our taste. I did get sung to and got a ginormous piece of chocolate cake. I got a handful of bits and Heidi got two or three. The kids devoured the rest.
7:00 PM--Got home from dinner and picking up a keychain that fit on my bike. It's a bronze circular locket with a piece of paper glued to the outside that looks like a page from a book. The only clear phrase says, "live and let live". Ate the cheesecake and opened my last present. Percy Jackson #1! Yay.
8:00 PM--Kids are in bed (but not asleep). Sitting down to watch Bones with my Hottie-honey. She says there's one more present for me, but I can't have it until later. I guess I'll have to just wait and see what it is.
I also got a lot of well-wishes via the interwebs. It's amazing how the little shout-outs can give you a boost. It was a very low-key but pretty good day.
I'm over thirty now. I found another white hair in my goatee. Not grey, white. I must be getting old.
